We read every creative that nine calorie tracking apps ran on Meta from 8 September to 7 October 2026, more than 2,900 of them, and sorted them by message, hook and idea.

What this means if you advertise in this category

  • What everyone says: no more logging by hand. 43% of the creatives open on a problem, such as counting by hand or a weight-loss struggle, and 67% make their case by showing the app at work: a phone pointed at a plate, and the calories appear.

  • What almost nobody says: why to believe it. Under 1% of the creatives open on, or argue with, other users' reviews, and 1% compare the app with an alternative.

  • A test worth running: open on proof from other users, such as a review score. Under 1% of the creatives do; Nutracheck is the outlier at 14% of its own, as in "Rated 4.9/5 on Trustpilot".

They all name the chore, then show the app doing it

The typical creative is a creator on video who complains about counting, takes a photo of a meal, and the app fills in the calories and macros. 74% of the creatives are creator content, and 95% are video.

  • Joule shows the app at work in 91% of its creatives: "Tired of logging every bite manually? Just snap a photo and our AI does the rest!"

  • Calo, 85%: a creator scans a meal and the numbers appear.

  • Cal AI: "She used to hate tracking her meals… now she just snaps a pic and this app does it for her."

Two break the pattern: BitePal jokes, Foodvisor aspires

Where most sell relief from a chore, these two sell a feeling.

BitePal and Foodvisor creatives side by side
  • BitePal and Foodvisor set a humorous mood in 42% and 34% of their creatives, against 11% for the category. BitePal's cartoon raccoon promises: "This time, you really lose weight."

  • They argue with results in 32% each, against 15% for the category. Foodvisor reaches for aspiration in 44%, against 26%, as in "Eat better, starting today".

Four apps bet nearly everything on one idea

Creatives that share one concept count as one idea, even when each is shot differently. The biggest holds 38% of all creatives: a creator opens on a weight-loss struggle, then scans a meal.

  • Joule puts 98% of its creatives into one idea, Calo and Welmi 91%, Cal AI 76%.

  • BitePal and Foodvisor vary the most: their biggest idea holds 16% and 12%.

All of this is what Meta shows publicly, with no spend or results

It shows what these apps run, not what works.

  • Every creative running from 8 September to 7 October 2026 that reached any country, 22 in all.

  • A country counts when a creative reached it, which is not the same as being targeted at it.
